What's New In Math...
We've been doing a lot of fun problem solving activities lately! This week we learned how to make magic squares.

In the coming weeks we'll be extending our study of fractions to help us prepare for sixth grade!
Reach for the stars! YOU can do ANYTHING you set your mind to!

Newsletter:
Curious about happenings in fifth grade??? Check out the Fifth Grade Newsletter! The fifth grade weekly newsletter can be found by clicking the "Shared Objects" file on the right hand side of this page. This is also where you can find VIP's (Very Important Papers/math tools) students use in math class.

Multiplication Facts!
Keep practicing the multiplication facts!...One of the most important skills fifth graders need to master is memorizing the multiplication facts through the 12’s. We will be using multiplication facts just about every day of fifth grade. Once you have the multiplication facts memorized, you need to memorize the division facts to the 12’s.

Math Textbook:
You can access the 5th grade math textbook online by going towww.tx.grkmath.com.
The password is F385B250C0. This comes in handy if you ever forget your math book at school when you have homework from the textbook. :) You will also find math games, practice pages, multiplication fact practice, and more.

Ways Parents Can Help!
Here are some fun activities you can do with your fifth grader at home:
  • Memorize basic multiplication facts through 12's
  • Read on a daily basis.
  • Increase reading fluency and vocabulary by reading a variety of materials such as magazines, newspapers, comic books, and non-fiction books.
  • Use everyday situations to sharpen math skills....
  • Estimate your family vehicle's gas mileage
  • Calculate distances using speedometer readings
  • Calculate change when you go to the store and buy something
  • Plan a trip using maps
  • Check daily temperatures
The possibilities are endless!
