Important Info. for Parents and Students:
Look to the left to see lesson plans by course. These are an important tool
to use to stay up to date on what will be happening in class, particularly
if students are going to be absent. I will be setting up a parent as well as a
student email distribution list, and I will periodically send important updates
in that manner. The Parent and Student Portals are also very useful tools to
stay updated on grades as well as upcoming assignments. I fully expect
students to use this web pageand Infinite Campus to stay apprised of what
they will be learning and the progress of their performance.

Course Descriptions and Details
English III AP Language and Composition is an introductory college-level course
that facilitates the development and fostering of a propensity for rhetoric and the study of
language through close reading of and writing in a variety of modes for a variety of audiences.
The course focuses on the philosophy that both reading and writing are centered around
the study of the art of persuasion.  We concentrate on the analysis of rhetorical purpose
in both fiction and nonfiction writing:  essays, speeches, editorials, letters, and the novel.
A great deal of writing is done in this course, both in and out of class, in a variety of modes
ranging from personal narrative to analytical to argumentative, as it mirrors the freshman
English composition course in college. This class prepares students for both the ELA Exit
Level TAKS test and the AP Language and Composition Exam, as well as success at the
collegiate level in English.
