Pamela A. Smith, MEd, RHIT, CMA, CPC

Pamela is a professional educator who has earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from The Ohio State University and a Master of Education from The University of Toledo (UT). Pam recently completed the Certificate in Health Information Administration (CHIA) at UT and is eligible to sit for her Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential. She holds the credentials of Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), and Certified Professional Coder (CPC). She embarked on her teaching career at UT in 1994 as a full-time faculty member in the Medical Assisting Technologies program and is currently a member of the Health Information Management (HIM) faculty teaching Acute Care Classification Systems and Services. A wide range of experiences in the healthcare field outside the classroom allows Pam to relate first-hand experiences to her students and bring a sense of reality into the teaching/learning experience. These professional experiences include being the Appeals Coordinator and Documentation Specialist at the University of Toledo Medical Center, the Professional Billing Coordinator for Outpatient Clinics (Auditor) with the Mercy Health Partners of Northwest Ohio, being an Inpatient coder for The Toledo Hospital and a Certified Administrative and clinical Medical Assistant with the ProMedica Health Care System. Pam's affiliated and participates with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), Michigan Health Information Management Association (MHIMA), American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), and the American Academy of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
