I want to welcome you to Weatherford ISD and Crockett Elementary. I look forward to meeting and working with you to create a successful learning experience for your child.
If you have any questions about DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment grades K, 1, 2, and 3), TPRI (Texas Primary Reading Inventory grades K, 1, and 2), the Reading TAKS Test (grades 3, 4, 5, and 6), the ARI (Accelerated Reading Instruction) program, or your child's reading progress please call or e mail me.
Parents frequently ask me for ways to help their child at home with their reading. The number one way for parents to help their child is to dedicate consistent time to reading each night with no interruptions, television, or video games. I would suggest 30 minutes to 1 hour each night. For younger readers this can be a combination of reading to your child, reading with your child, or having your child read to you. The second suggestion would be to become a reading model for your child. Be sure your children see you reading. Our children will imitate the actions of the adults that surround them. I'll be sharing more suggestions as the school year rolls along.
I've just uploaded a file that lists specific ways to help your child build their reading comprehension. I hope you find it helpful. It is in the "shared objects" portion on the right side of my welcome page.
