Spring Semester
Students are into the full swing of Spring with three weeks already completed. We are studying family trees and describing family members. A family tree project is due next Tuesday, Jan. 31st and will count as a test grade. Yesterday, students attended a presentation by the Ninth Grade Center counselor about registration for high school courses and planning for high school. She mentioned that high school classes were faster paced than middle school. Please be aware that your student in Spanish I is already experiencing a faster pace due to the amount of curriculum that must be covered to be prepared for Spanish II. Students need to spend time at home studying so they can keep up with the learning required of them. Thank you so much for your support.

Welcome to a New School Year
I am looking forward to a great year of learning Spanish at Hall Middle School. I am glad you have made the choice to learn a foreign language that will help you in every area of your life. Learning a foreign language is a great way to increase your ability to communicate with many people you encounter everyday. It is also a great life tool for your career. Welcome to a great learning experience!

Textbook Online
Students will be able to access the book online using the my.hrw.com website. They will be given user names and passwords in class by the third week of school and given a demonstration of how to access this useful tool. It has audio, video, practice tests, workbooks, and will give students feedback on correct/incorrect answers. A set of books will be kept in the classroom. Students will be allowed to check out a textbook if they prefer, or if they don't have Internet access. Workbooks will be issued to students at no charge as soon as they come in from the publisher. If a workbook is lost, $5.00 will be charged to replace the lost workbook. We use the textbook and workbook on a daily basis so students will be expected to bring the workbook to class.

Tutorials
Students can attend tutorials any Tuesday or Thursday after school until 4:30 pm. Morning tutorials will need to be arranged due to my teacher duty station before school. I will keep students informed in class how they will be able to see me before the start of the school day if they have questions or concerns. I encourage students to utilize tutorials as a way to get questions answered over material they may not have had time to address in class. Of course, class is the best time to address questions, but it helps some students to have one-on-one time.
