We had our first test today and progress reports will be sent home on Tuesday. Next week will begin our study of the 13 English Colonies. Pre-Ap classes were given a timeline assignment that is due 9/27.

This week we are studying the Declaration of Independence and the Revolutionary War. There will be a quiz on Thursday or Friday on the Declaration of Independence and we will have a test next Wednesday 10/12. I have already uploaded the review for the test in the file folder. Pre-Ap will have another timeline due this six weeks and we will begin reading "The Woods Runner" by Gary Paulson. It will be on sale at the book fair. Our field trip to the Amon Carter Museum of American Art and the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is set for November 17th. Field trip permission slips and $15 are due by October 25th. We need parent volunteers, so be sure to register as a volunteer with WISD. The forms are on the website.

We just finished our study of the Declaration of Independence and are now moving on to the Revolutionary War. We will be talking about powerful figures in our history and how a group of brave men and women fought hard for our Independence. Just a reminder: Field Trip money/permission slips are due Tuesday, October 25th. Please let me or the office know if there is a financial need. We don't want anyone to miss out! Pre-Ap classes need to be purchasing the book, "The Woodsrunner" by Gary Paulson. It is on sale at the book fair this week and we will begin reading it Monday 10/24. Pre-Ap timelines are due 10/28! An extra credit assignment has been added to "class handouts" file. If you were not successful on the Declaration of Independence Test, you may complete the assignment to replace your test grade. The extra-credit is due Oct. 28th.

Whew! Only 3 weeks until Christmas break! Did the semester fly by or what? We will be focusing on the U.S. Constitution and what it means in our lives for the next few weeks. Please keep in mind the following dates! 11/29- Preamble Quiz- work on those memorization skills! 12/1- Branches of Government Tree due. 12/7- Bill of Rights Quiz 12/8- Constitution Test (review uploaded) 12/9-12/14- Semester Review (review uploaded) 12/14- Exams 1st and 8th periods 12/15- Exams 2, 3,4 and Early Release 12/16- Exams 5, 6, 7 and Early Release Have a Merry Christmas!

Progress Reports will be going home this week! I can't believe we are half way through the 4th six weeks already! We are currently working on the expansion of the United States with the Louisiana Purchase and next week we will be learning about the War of 1812......hopefully some of the parents will remember "in 1814 we took a little trip". Jefferson biographies are due 1/23/12 Lewis and Clark Quiz 1/27/12 Ch. 9 and 10 Test 2/7/12 * Pre-AP* We will begin reading "Soldiers Heart" by Gary Paulson during the 5th six weeks right after Spring Break. It is available for purchase in the library for $6. You may acquire the book any way you chose, electronically, Amazon, Barnes and Noble etc. You must show me that you have the book by 3/10/12. If you cannot get the book for any reason, you must notify me by 2/24/12.

This week we are working on U.S. maps and will have a quiz on the maps on Wednesday 8/31. We will then begin our study of exploration and colonization. We will tentatively have our first test on Friday 9/9. Please remember to check Infinite Campus for grades. There is no school on Monday 9/5!

Welcome to 8th grade American History! I am so excited to share this journey through our country's history with you this year! This year your American History class will cover American History from the Explorers who found the New World, to the division of our country during the Civil War. We will study things like the 13 Colonies, the Revolutionary War, Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and the Civil War. You can contact me by calling 817-598-2822 ext. 3951. If you leave a message, I will return your phone call either during my collaboration period, 10:45-11:33 or my conference period, 11:40-12:45. I am availiable for tutorials after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 4:30 if requested.
