I am excited we are all back from the break and ready to work hard.  In the coming weeks we will be covering literary elements, cause and effect, inferencing and poetry. 

 

We just finished a short story by Jack London called "To Build a Fire".  The students did very well identifying the literary elements of setting, character, plot and theme.  Our class will begin a new workshop on Wednesday that covers cause and effect through science articles about the ocean.. 

 

I want my students in class every day.  Please help keep them healthy by reminding them to wash their hands and cough into their sleeve.  I work very diligently to keep my classroom and all the shared technology germ free.  Please encourage healthy habits.  When they miss one day of school it is actually missing 1 hour in each subject.  A lot of things happen in an hour in class.  I am completely out of tissues and am down to my last bottle of hand sanitizer.

 

I am very excited about the growth I am seeing in the area of comprehension in your children.  We will be taking a benchmark test soon.  Please be working on academic vocabulary at home with your student.  During each workshop we have a list of vocabulary words the students can study.
