The Operation Walk - Mooresville, Indiana team returned from Guatemala on February 7th, 2009 having successfully treated a total of 72 patients and performed 91 surgical procedures including knee and hip joint replacements, and foot and ankle corrective surgeries. All operations were completed within a three and a half day period.
Led by Dr. Merrill Ritter, the comprehensive team of 72 health care professionals included 11 surgeons, 5 anesthesiologists, and 1 internal medicine physician. Personnel from nine states (Alaska, Arizona, California, Indiana, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and South Carolina) were represented.
The group was recognized on Tuesday evening at a reception given by the President of the Congress of the Republic of Guatemala, and on Thursday evening at the National Palace by the Vice-President of Guatemala. Dr. Billy and Ligia Claverie hosted the group throughout the week.
Planning is already underway for 2010 as Operation Walk continues its commitment in providing life-changing relief from pain and new joint mobility.
