Welcome to the world of 1st grade.
Welcome to Mrs. Mask's SuperKids.
We are going to have so much fun learning new things together. 1st grade is a time of beginnings. I will enjoy seeing your child grow in both Reading and Math Skills. I may even have the priviledge of hearing your child read his/her first complete story on their own. Your child will be challenged to learn sight words and math facts. 1st grade is a time of new discovery.
Parent support is critical in order to help your child achieve. Your child will have a homework folder. All activities and notes will be brought home in this folder. Please look through your child's folder each day. If you need to send me a note, please place it in the folder. A behavior chart is also in the folder . Each day your child follows all the classroom rules, he/she will . If your get a stamp on their chart. At the end of the week, each child who has filled their chart with a stamp will be a "SuperKid" and will get a star on the class chart. This is one of our goals.
It is so important that your child gets to school on time. Learning begins when the school bell rings. Our morning is filled with language art activities including handwriting, spelling, phonics and reading groups.
Math activities fill the afternoon from 1:30 to 2:50. Learning happens until near the end of the day. Please do not pick your child up early, if possible.
Lunch is from 11:00 - 11:30. Lunch is $2.00. Milk is .50 cents. Ice Cream on Fridays is .75 cents.
Remember, you are welcome to come eat lunch with your child. Please visit the office first and sign in and get a visitor's pass to wear in the building.
First graders need a snack during the afternoon, after P.E. and Music. A snack calendar is sent home at the beginning of each month. Please follow the Nutritional Snack guidelines.
Homework will be sent home each week in Reading, Spelling and Math Practice. Please record daily reading homework in your child's folder, this is a part of their grade. Also, your child will get a star on the homework chart each Friday upon completing their homework. This is another important "SuperKid" Goal.
Tennis shoes are required for P.E. and are the best shoes to wear as far as playground safety when we are at recess.
Dismissal time is at 3:10. Bus and daycare students will be dismissed from the gym. All other students will be dismissed under the flagpole. If there is a change in who will be picking up your child, please let me know. Send a note in their folder or call the school so they can get the message to me.
