Welcome to 3rd Grade!
Hello! Please allow me to introduce myself, My name is Danica Thomas and this will be my 3rd year to teach at Mary Martin, and I absolutely LOVE everything about Mary Martin. I feel priviliged to work among such kind and caring teachers, administrators and staff. All the faculty and staff are a joy to be around, and especially the students. 3rd grade is a very important grade and with some hard work and dedication, our 3rd graders will become successful 4th graders. As they embark on their journey in 3rd grade, they will face challenges which will require working hard to complete their journey. I have complete faith in each of my students.  Our mission is to work hard to be successful in 3rd grade. I look forward to watching my 3rd graders grow into wonderful 4th graders.
I am anxious to teach many more years of 3rd grade!

I have lived in Weatherford for 5 years. I am originally from a tiny town called Eastland. I have 2 boys, Zayne and Jagger. Zayne is a 3rd grader and Jagger is 2 years old and goes to school at The Schoolhouse! I am blessed to have such a rewarding career.

3rd Grade Expectations
Our class is working hard to improve on all of their math facts.  We do timed fact tests every day and our goal is simply to improve!  We have moved on to multiplication. I have several  fun sites that your child can go to for practice.  Just click on the "quick links" on the right side of this page and you will find many websites that will help your child learn and  have fun.  Enjoy!
***We have begun writing our Spelling Tests in cursive handwriting. Please encourage your students at home to practice in their best cursive handwriting when taking the test.

Encourage your child to make goals at home for areas of improvement. We have our own class data binders that we graph in daily. We graph our attendance, completion of assignments, weekly spelling tests, and mad minute facts. We also set a personal goal every 6 weeks that we would like to achieve.

Also, remember to send your child a healthy snack each day for snack time. A water bottle with water is also welcome. No chips, cookies or candy are allowed in the class room as a snack but they can be eaten during lunch time :)

HOMEWORK:
Monday: Read for 20 minutes and Reader Response--look in the home folder for the response.
Tuesday: Read for 20 minutes and Math Sheet
Wednesday: Read for 20 minutes
Thursday: Read for 20 minutes and Reader Response--look in the home folder for the response.
Friday: Have a great weekend!
**Be sure to study math facts each night**

20 Minute Reading
Students should read a chapter book that is on their level.  They should be reading their library book.  I check each chapter book before they check it out.  Our goal is for your child to read their books from begining to end.  If time permits ask your child to retell what they have read to you in their own words from begining to middle to end.  This will encourage your child to read for understanding, instead of reading until the timer goes off.

Reader's Response
There will always be directions in your child's home folder.  Please find the date for the assignment and follow the directions.  Inside the front cover of their Memory Book is a rubric.  Please refer back to that with your child to make sure the response is done correctly.
