About Me

I am a professor of Global English, and I am excited about my work with international students and universities. I especially enjoy my work and the Global Business English Program with Sias University in China.

On a daily basis, I enjoy running and writing. Most of my writing is in the genre of non-fiction, about my family and academic life. But I think that my greatest joy is being a father, since I get the chance to re-learn valuable things about life that I've allowed to pass by me. My son and two daughters keep me busy, learning.
After completing his PhD in English at the University of Kansas, Dan Kulmala accepted a position at Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS. His professional interests have gravitated away from the study of drama and theater to essay writing, assessment of student learner outcomes, performance-based learning, innovative curriculum development, and Global English.  With a focused interest in theories of the post-modern university, he develops new programs of study and re-designs existing courses at FHSU. Recently, he created a new degree program: Global English. This program involves the study of English for professional purposes as a global language. He has been awarded a Teagle Foundation Teaching and Learning Scholar position and serves on the Advisory Board for SXSWedu. Currently, he holds a position as Professor of Global English and Chair of the Department of Modern Languages. Over the next year, he plans on completing a collection of non-fiction essays about his family for a book entitled Locating My Father.
