6th 6-Weeks
Dear Parents, We are beginning the best part of our curriculum titled Experimental Design. The sixth six-weeks will include a small scale science fair project. By small scale I mean: A project that will be completed at school A project that takes less than 5 days A project that includes practical materials Your student will get to choose their science fair topic and may ask you for some help with gathering materials that are not available at school. If you are unable to help with the materials, please inform your child to pick another topic/project. Some of my students have very BIG ideas for their projects, so I completely understand if the materials are not feasible for your family. We will create display boards at school, but if you would like your child to have a better board you can purchase an inexpensive tri-fold board at most general stores. Thank you in advance for your support and, as stated above, the projects will be done during class time. Danita Anderson Crockett Elementary 5thGrade Science

Welcome Back
Parents and Students, I am so excited to be teaching science this year! We are going to have so much fun, you may not even realize you are learning :-) I have taught P.E. at Crockett for the last three years, but previous to Crockett, I taught 6th grade and 8th grade science. I love science and am looking forward to an amazing year and hearing all about your summer!! 1st Six Weeks: Introduction to Fabulous Fifth Grade Lab Safety Classifying Matter

2nd 6-Weeks
FORCE, MOTION, and ENERGY We are in to our 2nd 6-Weeks of school and moving right along. This six weeks is devoted to force, motion, and five forms of energy. In 5th grade, we use the acronym MELTS to help recall the types of energy we are learning about. Mechanical-simple machines are good examples Electrical-using closed circuts and currents Light-transmit, reflect, absorb, and refract are how light interacts with matter Thermal-heat is another word for this type of energy Sound-telephones are a good example

Climate The Hydrological Cycle (Water Cycle) Food Chains Food Webs Ecosystem Interactions Super Scientist packets were handed out on 2/1/12. Please use this packet as a review for the STAAR test. Please read with your child and quiz them for fun. Your child needs to have this packet with them every day at school. Thank you in advance for your help and cooperation.

5th 6-Weeks
Wow! Time is flying by.... The 5th 6-Weeks is a fun filled six weeks with plenty of hands on activities. We will study life cycles, inherited traits, and learned behaviors. Expect plenty of questions about your family's genetics. There will not be a vocabulary test for the week before Spring Break (March 5-9). My homeroom will receive report cards 3/29/2012, sorry for the inconvience. 4/2/12: We will not have vocabulary this week due to the fact that we have a STAAR Science Practice Test on Thursday.
