Welcome Spring!
|
We are changing just like the seasons! As our students are progressing toward the end of the year, we have made some changes in our language arts routines. First of all, the spelling list has been replaced with a vocabulary list and definitions. We'll work all week on math vocabulary and students will be tested on Fridays with a matching quiz. Thurs. nights they bring home the packet of vocabulary words to study for Fri.'s test. They will not be expected to spell the words, just recognize the definition. This helps a great deal with problem solving. We are also busy reading an historical fiction adventure novel called Trouble River by Betsy Byars. In class we are focusing on the great vocabulary and characterization that this book offers. This book parallels our social studies units on early Texas settlers. Homework has changed to a specific packet that will be completed over several weeks. The basic idea is to again focus on vocabulary words and to read an entire book that is appropriate for each child's reading level. I expect the book to be brought back and forth to school each day because we often use their homework reading books in class. Group pictures are Wed. March 9. Spring Break is the week of Mar. 14.
