My art students are going to end the 1st six weeks by finishing some cover designs for their portfolio. They have done a picture with their initials; a free choice design; and they will end the portfolio cover assignments by drawing their name in block letters. The students had to follow the guidlines, but on each assignment they were given the opportunity to be creative by adding decorations.
Students saw pictures that were successful examples of the expectations for each assignmet. After discussing art terms and vocabulary and seeing demonstrations of each skill to be used in the assignments, students were given opportunities to practice.
Students have spent much time improving coloring skills-begining with the very basics of coloring smoothly and advancing to shading with value and gradation. As students learn and master new skills,
they will be required to continue using and improving on these basic skills.
Here are vocabulary words and terms that students are responsible for:
value, gradation, balance, symmetry, contrast, composition, elements of art, complementary colors and critique.
Every project is graded on the following criteria:
Idea=challenging and creative
Composition=following the guidelines of the assignment-using previously learned and new skills
Neatness
Eye-catching
