Description:
April received her undergraduate degree from Texas Tech and her Masters from TWU and currently teaches 4th grade. April’s mother was a teacher and she remembers sitting around the dining room table as a child helping her mother prepare, cut, glue, and glitter items for her classroom. She remembers her mother curling up in bed with her at night to read with her at bedtime, the way they hunted for Monarch caterpillars for her classroom, and the way she mixed colored ice cubes in her drinks to teach her the color wheel. April’s mother instilled a passionate love for learning in her. She didn’t do that by forcing her to read alone in her room, or sitting at the table in silence until she finished her homework…she led April to love learning by learning with her. April says, “When I realized my calling in life was education, I knew what I needed to do. I needed to inspire kids to WANT to learn. Not simply teach them to read and write, but to go out and ask their own questions, and to show them the love for learning that I was shown.”
