Epsilen Environment is also the only learning management system that brings members
together in a global network. Members can join workgroups or personal and professional
groups on campus or across the miles, and communicate using the sophisticated set
of Web 2.0 tools. Faculty can create and share every aspect of their teaching environment-syllabi,
lesson plans, resources, tests, documents, and more.
Flexible Course Management
Course management tools and intuitive wizards let faculty easily create syllabi
and lessons, and add text, multimedia, websites, and videos, as well as content
from over 150 years of the New York Times available in the
New
York Times Content Repository.
They can create lessons at any time and make them available to students as desired,
either manually or on a set date.
Collaborative Web 2.0 Tools
Faculty and students enjoy access to a wide range of collaborative networking tools
for use in every course—including blogs, wikis, forums, and chats—directly connected
with the Epsilen gradebook.
Faculty can assign collaborative class projects, and students can use the tools
to complete joint projects and communicate outside of class.
Multiple Workgroups
Faculty can create and manage multiple student groups, each with a private interface
and its own toolset for online collaboration, and invite outside experts to join
the workgroup as needed. Students collaborate in a secure learning environment using
Post-its, files, wikis, and forums. Workgroups can be made up of students from one
course or across different courses.
Completed workgroup projects can be sent directly to the instructor, who can grade
work in the workgroup, with grades sent automatically to the gradebook.
Course Drop Boxes
Students use the Epsilen drop boxes to submit assignments, and faculty use them
as a repository from which students can upload assignments.
The drop box tool provides a time-sensitive, secure repository to which students
upload their assignment files. They can also set permissions to allow other students
to view their files on an individual document basis as desired.
Educators can assign drop boxes for a complete course or for individual lesson plans
or projects. They can lock drop boxes to prevent new uploads once the assignment
period has expired and unlock again as desired.
They can also grade assignments directly from the drop boxes, with grades sent automatically
to the gradebook.
Streamlined Course Communications
Using the Epsilen announcement, email, or course calendar features, faculty can
communicate with the whole class, specified workgroups, or individual students as
desired. Course announcements appear on the student course home page and are visible
upon login.
Integrated Gradebook
The Epsilen gradebook allows faculty to manage and display course grades, review
student ranking in each course, and evaluate student statistics.
Students earn participation grades by writing in blogs, and faculty save time by
evaluating student work in the blogs without directly accessing the gradebook. Faculty
can also track the amount of writing in the blogs and view a course activity report
for each student.
The gradebook automatically tracks other participation statistics such as the number
of comments posted in forums and other online activities.
