Dr. Polette is a specialist in children's and adolescent literacy and a Professor of English at the University of Texas at El Paso. This training promotes the development of literacy skills by authentically integrating language arts and Social Studies standards and implementing literacy strategies. These sessions will focus on strategies for integrating Social Studies and Language Arts. These interactive sessions will be filled with best practices - practices that present clear objectives, specific (and easy to follow) procedures, and methods for evaluation. In addition, Dr. Polette will demonstrate how to use language arts skill sets - reading, writing, speaking, and listening - to help students develop a love of reading, comprehend social studies texts they have read, and write about what they have learned. There will be an additional focus on how to respond to the CSCOPE writing prompts.
