"Crafter's
Smackdown" ReCreation Afterschool Art
Program
Fundraiser
TheCongregation Beth Sholom Education Center held
its 3rd annual fundraiser for the ReCreation After School Art
Program on Feb 18, 2007. This event is a team crafting competition
using found objects, recycled materials and previously thrown away
goods to create something stunning. This hilarious, fun filled
competition with an edge has a Iron Chef meets Martha Stewart feel
with a little pro wrestling thrown in.

& Dr. Herminia Din (not featured in photo)

Welcome to the Crafters Smackdown!!!We started the
smackdown with 12, 4-man teams. Each team completes in two
challenges; 4 winning teams will advance to the semifinals. The
semifinalists will compete in a third challenge, which will
determine which two teams will advance to the final
round.

Let the Games Begin!
Round One Challenge: Create a new dice
game

Our Solution: FLATTER THE JUDGES. I guess it was the
human pyramid and lovely singing skills of our team that propelled
us into the semi finals.
Round 2 - Design a Scrapbook Page
The Challege: Create a scrapbook page with the two photos given to
each team. The photos are random and many of them have something
wrong with them. Each team is to create a theme page that ties the
two photos together.

Michelle Stringer, Dr. Herminia Din, Tina Fischer
Our solution: We created an outdoor adventure with
the photos. We later found out that one of the photos featured
Captain Ed, shown in the lower picture. We added a journal excerpt
that tied the two photos together. Our page included three
dimensional trees!! Great idea.
The judges Deliberate......

We made it to the Semi-Finals!!!!
Round 3 - Design a uniform for an Alaskan
themed restaraunt

Our team did a great job at pulling it all together.
Last minute touches made for a great action shot!!!

Our uniform featured a large red salmon, whose body
spans the entire shirt. On the front "big red" is being pulled from
the frigid Alaskan waters, while his tail is being seared over the
red hot flames on the back. Our restaraunt was called "Hook N
Cook", where "You hook em' & We'll cook em'." We had a
fantastic commercial and not so strategically placed bobber. Ha Ha!
But we made it to the Finals!!! Yeah!!!

Craft Commandos The Kraft Killas
We had some really great competitors, I know the
judges had a tough decision.
But we made it through!!!
Round 4 - Pimp my sled

The Craft Killas had a really great sled too. It was
certainly fit for a princess and equipped with lipgloss.
Our Solution:

This baby had all the bells and whistles; designed
for any adevnture-loving, button pushing toddler on the face of
this planet. We had turbo rocket strapped to either side (complete
with flames), cup holder, cushion seating material, simulated
rubber floor mats, side view mirrors, cup holder, safety harness,
silver trimmed rear pillow, dozens of control switches, golden
garnishes, and the incredible hulk action figure for intimidation.
Last but not least we included flight goggles and saftey helmet to
complete the look.We are superstars!!!

The test ride was a success!!!!
AND THE TROPHYGOES TO.....

THE ART TARTS!!!!

Special thanks to Tara for hosting the competition,
it was a lot of fun. Samara was the best announcer!!! She is FUNNN
E!

Our cheering section came to watch the
festivities!!!
